The winery's beautiful vineyards stretch across the slopes of Öreghegy in Etyek. Although the wines are central to the vineyard's operations, it is about so much more than that: visitors can enjoy relaxation, diverse programs, delicious food, and unforgettable experiences. The Haraszthy Vineyards were founded in 1996, and the wine processing plant was completed in 2003. The vineyards currently cover 143 hectares, which are continuously cultivated and developed. The vineyard’s goal is to produce high-quality wines, with a particular focus on showcasing Burgundy grape varieties locally. The main grape varieties include Irsai Olivér, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, and Pinot Noir, but Pinot Gris, Királyleányka, and Zenit are also used for cuvées. A special selection process ensures that only the finest, healthiest berries proceed to the next phase of processing. This strict selection guarantees the exceptional quality of the wines. The vineyard is named after the famous adventurer, traveler, and pioneer winemaker,Ágoston Haraszthy, who settled in Wisconsin, USA, and became known as the “Father of California Wine.” Haraszthy was the first Hungarian to settle permanently in the United States and founded Wisconsin’s first village, Széptáj, later renamed Sauk City. In 1857, Haraszthy visited theSonoma Valleyin California, where he cultivated 226 hectares of vineyards, establishingBuena Vista Winery. This winery remains one of the most prestigious in the region. In 1861, he returned to California from Europe with 300 varieties of European grapes, solidifying his reputation as a key figure in the development of the Californian wine industry. Haraszthy’s life was filled with exciting adventures, and he spent his final years in Nicaragua producing rum. He tragically died after falling from a riverside and being attacked by alligators.
